Founded in 1978 in Dallas, Refugee Services of Texas (RST) is a social-service agency dedicated to providing assistance to refugees and other displaced persons fleeing persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group—as well as to the communities that welcome them. RST provides services to hundreds of refugees, asylees, survivors of human trafficking, unaccompanied children and related vulnerable populations from over 30 different countries of origin each year.
The mission of Tony’s Place is to provide a dependable, safe place where homeless LGBT + youth can find support and access to services that will help them survive and thrive. To better serve the needs of youth in the Greater Houston Area who are experiencing homelessness, Tony’s Place provides services that include meals, laundry, showers, phone charging, access to clothing, access to computers, and referrals to diverse social service providers, including housing, employment, wellness, HIV testing, and education. Tony’s place currently operates Friday and Saturday from noon until 5pm.
The T.R.U.T.H. Project was founded in 2011 as a Houston based community mobilization initiative focused on utilizing various art forms to educate and empower LGBTQ+ communities of color and allies through the utilization of social art. Since its inception, The T.R.U.T.H. Project has reached more than 5,000 attendees and continue to grow. Spoken Word, Dance, Vocalist and Visual Artist performances are held quarterly and have addressed issues such as bullying, domestic violence, depression, sexual abuse and HIV/AIDS.
The T.R.U.T.H. Project was awarded its 501c3 designation in May 2015 as an organization focused of strengthening the community and providing safe artistic space for expression and healing.
YMCA International Services is part of the Y family, providing local refugees, immigrants, victims of human trafficking, and other vulnerable populations with client-focused services. Through the generosity of caring citizens, these services provide the support necessary for them to become economically independent and engaged in their new community.
