Community Recognition

November 9, 2013: The 2013 Rice Design Alliance gala honored OKRA. The invitation to this prestigious annual event highlighted OKRA’s “great contributions to Houston” and stated: “This group of restaurateurs has, in the short time since their founding in 2011, made great contributions to Houston. Serving up some of the country’s most amazing food and drinks, their restaurants and bars have attracted international attention to our diverse culture. They have worked with the city to craft creative solutions to parking. They have adaptively reused historic buildings throughout the inner city. They have brought new nightlife and activity to Downtown. Their Original OKRA Charity Saloon, which donates all profits to local organizations, is an example of their ongoing civic commitment through creative philanthropy. The OKRA leaders are energetic, young, and visionary entrepreneurs and they represent the very best of Houston.”

October 22, 2013: Houston Mayor Annise Parker declared October 22, 2013 OKRA Charity Saloon Day. The proclamation commended OKRA and the OKRA Charity Saloon “for their many contributions to charities in the community.”
