A group of like-minded restaurant and bar owners in Houston recognized a need for a public voice for independent businesses in the industry. In 2011, they founded OKRA, the Organized Kollaboration on Restaurant Affairs, to pursue community and charitable initiatives in the city.
At OKRA Charity Saloon, the concept is simple. For each drink purchased, guests receive one vote that they may cast that night for one of four charities selected by OKRA’s members. The charities are all locally based. The charity with the most votes at the end of the month receives the next month’s proceeds. Interested charities, please submit an application.
Our current giving total is $1,187,376.59.
This month, we are raising money for Colon Cancer Coalition.
Scheduling your colonoscopy…the only booty call that could save your life! 1 in 5 people that are diagnosed with colorectal cancer are between 20-54 years old. Colon Cancer Coalition helps empower local communities to promote prevention and early detection of colon cancer and provides support to those affected.
Today, survivors, family and friends across America are joining our grassroots movement to raise awareness and screening rates for colon cancer. We’re committed to empowering personal change on a national level by bringing understanding, raising awareness and eliminating fear of colon cancer. We have focused on early onset screening to educate the community that even if you do not have symptoms now or not at an age-risk that you know the risk and symptoms to lead to this disease.
We are dedicated to encouraging screening and raising awareness of colorectal cancer. Our signature Get Your Rear in Gear® and Tour de Tush® event series are volunteer-driven in communities throughout the United States. In 2017 alone we granted over $1 million to local community programs that will raise screening rates, increase awareness, and educate the public about the signs and symptoms of this disease.
We are located at 924 Congress St. Houston Texas 77002.
Open daily 4pm-2am. Happy hour 4-6:30pm.
